It’s Hearing Awareness Week all month at Hear Clear

Hearing loss is often referred to as the “invisible disability”. We humans love to communicate and many people are missing out because they aren’t aware of what they cannot hear. Yet having a hearing loss can create a sense of isolation and reduce our quality of life and relationships.

Katie Rahman of Hear-Clear says “Hearing loss due to age usually occurs very slowly, so slowly that the person doesn’t notice. Many people adjust their behaviour to cope. They are often unaware of how many times they ask people to repeat themselves.”

Latest research indicates one in six Australians have a hearing loss. For younger people, the numbers are relatively low but the proportion rises for people over the age of 70 years when three out of four people have an impairment.

Hearing Awareness Week (20-26 August) is a national campaign to raise awareness of the issues facing people with hearing loss. Hear-Clear Australia is joining the campaign by making special offers to help you hear well again.

Noisy restaurants, large group meetings and social occasions are sources of background noise which frustrate people with normal hearing. Add in a hearing loss and the problem magnifies. Throughout August, Hear-Clear is offering eligible clients a free trial of the Primax hearing aid, which is clinically proven to help you hear in background noise. Katie will also be offering free hearing checks at the Galston clinic and an obligation free check of your existing hearing aids.

This is an opportunity to get your hearing checked and ask some questions about what is available. Places are limited so phone the clinic to secure a time.
