Do I need a referral for a hearing test ?

You don’t need a referral from your GP to see the clinicians at Hear-Clear Australia.

Can I claim a hearing test on Medicare ?

It is not possible to claim the cost of hearing tests from Medicare unless your doctor has determined that you have a chronic health condition that would benefit from a hearing services. Pensioners and veterans may apply to be covered by the Office of Hearing Services and receive free and subsidised hearing services and hearing aids through Hear-Clear Australia. How do I know if I need a hearing aid ?

The first step to finding out if you may benefit from a hearing aid is to get your hearing tested at our clinic. Early signs of hearing loss include

  • Finding it hard to hear in noisy situations
  • Thinking people around you mumble
  • Having to turn the TV up louder or always needing to use captions
  • Hearing people speak but having trouble understanding
  • Frequently asking people to repeat what they say

Do I really need 2 hearing aids ?

We recommend that most people need two hearing aids. Our brains are used to receiving information from both ears so we will program the two aids to hear in a balanced way.

Will I become dependent on hearing aids ?

Rather than thinking about becoming dependent on hearing aids, we like to encourage people to notice how much easier life is when they can hear again. Once you notice the improvement, you will want to wear your hearing aids so that you can hear the conversation every time.

Will I hear more in background noise ?

Modern hearing aids have made huge improvements to being able to hear in background noise. Directional microphones as well as individual programs tailored to your lifestyle needs can make hearing in background noise so much better. While no hearing aid can completely block out background noise, the technology can certainly make it easier for you.

How long does it take to get used to a hearing aid ?

Most people need time, up to a few months to get used to wearing a hearing aid. While you will notice the benefits straight away, it can take a little while for your brain to adjust to the ways it is hearing sounds again.
