FREE Hearing Seminar Thursday 25 August at 11am “Rediscover the joy of hearing”

Sounds evoke memories and emotions. Research has shown that the part of the brain responsible for our senses is also responsible for storing memories.

Bruce Allen of Hear Clear Australia fondly recalls as a young child falling asleep to the distant sound of steam trains chugging up the ridge between Como and Sutherland. Back then, his mother knew he had excellent hearing because he could hear the cellophane unwrapping off a lolly two rooms away.

The human ear is a marvel; the ear drum only moves a fraction to transmit sound into the brain, in a person with good hearing it is equivalent to 1/ 50,000th of the diameter of a hair.

But as we age, hearing gradually diminishes. We don’t realise what we are missing until we get it back; the rustle of leaves, the patter of rain or the sound of a grandchild’s first words. Sometimes we are pleased to be able to shut out annoying sounds but mostly we want to hear more.

Hear Clear Australia is hosting a free seminar for Hearing Awareness Week 2016 to demonstrate how new technology can help you rediscover the joy of hearing. Bruce Allen and Katie Rahman will conduct a fun and interactive workshop to demonstrate the difference a new hearing aid can make and how a remote control can give you the ability to manage the sounds in your environment.
