Use this handy checklist to investigate and solve the most common issues experienced with hearing aids. If you can’t solve the problem, bring your hearing aids into one of our clinics so that we can help you to hear clearly again.
My hearing aid is dead
- Check the battery door is closed
- Change the battery
- Clean your ear piece with your hearing aid brush
- If this doesn’t work, bring the aid in to be checked
My hearing keeps whistling
- Check the ear piece is correctly positioned in your ear.
- Check you have the correct aid in the correct ear
- Get your ears checked for wax as this can cause feedback or whistling
- If this doesn’t work, bring the aid in to be checked.
My hearing aid isn’t loud enough
- Check the battery door is closed
- Change the battery
- Clean your ear piece with your hearing aid brush
- Get your ears checked for wax
- Book an appointment with your clinician. Your hearing aids may need reprogramming, if your hearing has changed
My hearing aid is intermittent, it cuts in and out
- Change the battery
- If this doesn’t work, bring the aid in to be checked
The new battery doesn’t work
- Try another battery and make sure you allow time for the battery to activate after you remove the sticker.
- Check the ear piece for wax and clean with your hearing aid brush.
- If this doesn’t work, bring the aid into be checked.
The battery doesn't last long
- Make sure you wait 30 seconds between removing the sticker and putting the battery in the hearing aid to allow time for it to activate completely.
